Eviction Prevention Resources

The eviction delay will officially end on July 31, 2021. 

There are steps you can take NOW to stay in your home. The eviction moratorium prohibits a landlord from removing a covered tenant from a residential rental property for non-payment of rent before July 31, 2021. The moratorium prohibits any action by a landlord, owner, or other person to remove or cause the removal of a covered tenant from the residential property for non-payment of rent.

If you are covered by the eviction moratorium you must:

● Sign a declaration under oath stating that you are protected by the moratorium.

● Give a copy of the signed declaration to your landlord or property manager.

● Keep a copy of the signed declaration for your records.

● If an eviction has been filed against you in court, provide a copy of the declaration to the judge at your court date.

● ALL adults in the home should sign a declaration.

The declaration is signed under oath and under penalty of perjury. If you do not understand anything in the declaration, you should speak with a lawyer before signing it.

The Restore Hope Ministries (RHM) COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) is a rental assistance program designed to provide relief to low- and moderate-income households residing in the following Oklahoma counties: Tulsa, Ottawa, Craig, Nowata, Washington, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Mayes, Delaware, Adair, Cherokee, Wagoner, Creek, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, McIntosh Muskogee, Haskell, Sequoyah that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. ERAP can assist with up to 12 months of past due rent as well as up to 3 months of future rent.

Mediation is a free resource for both landlords and tenants. You can sit down with a neutral trained mediator and try and reach a mutually beneficial agreement with your landlord without the need for an eviction filing. You can request mediation any time and do not have to wait for a case to be filed against you.
